Media in highly original 'Pilgrims Progress' headline shock Media observers in South Lincolnshire were again stunned and amazed by the latest ‘Pilgrims Progress’ headline today, branding it a ‘blazing trail of originality through the crass mind-filth of today's clichéd mass-media’. The latest bout of mind-bending wordplay and clever avoidance of metaphor came courtesy of www.talk-soccer.com. Their report of Boston’s progression into the next round of the LDV Vans Trophy was entitled ‘Pilgrims Make Progress’. John Blackwell commented: ‘My God, I'm not Shakespeare. But I'm not daft and I can appreciate intelligent and imaginative writing when I come across it. I saw that headline and thought, Oh, there's something a little different. You know, just a little different to your average shit-rag hack writing.’ Boston Standard editor Julia Ogden said: ‘I can only aspire to the levels of literary genius displayed by talk-soccer.com. I spend hours thinking of catchy headlines for our Boston United items. I'd honestly never, ever thought of matching ‘Pilgrims’ and ‘Progress’ together before. And I probably never will now. You can't match brilliance.’ ‘Don't read the Target,’ Ogden added. |
