United release supporters
- 'We need League standard fans' says Sotnick Boston United supporters were stunned today when manager Steve Evans released them on a free transfer and made an immediate bid for another team’s crowd, writes impsTALK reporter Tips. Fans were called into Evans’ York Street office this morning and told they did not have a future with the Pilgrims after stalling on signing new season-ticket contracts. Andy Butler was the first fan told he would not be returning to watch his beloved Boston and was distraught at the news. ‘Steve told me that, as an former Unibond and Conference fan, I was surplus to requirements and that he would be looking elsewhere for a crowd next year,’ Butler said, sobbing into a pint of Batemans this afternoon. Butler's agent denied his client had demanded too much from Boston. 'All Andy wanted was some decent entertaining football next season,' Frank Jizzblow told impsTALK. 'It wasn't much and was to be his reward for many years of loyalty to Boston. It's a shame Evans didn't see it the same way.' Evans confirmed this afternoon that he has already lodged a ‘sizable’ bid with a Championship club, believed to be Norwich City, for their fans. Chairman Jon Sotnick told impsTALK: ‘I sat down with Steve and Jim to discuss next season. We realised that some of the crowd are left over from the Unibond days and need upgrading. Not only that, some of them have been rather hesitant in signing new season ticket forms. BUFC are a progressive Coca Cola League club and thus require a league standard crowd, not some rag-tag bunch of non-league supporters. ‘It’s
regrettable and I wish our fans all the best for the future in whatever
they choose to do.’ |
