Boston unveil Elding. Again.

With season-tickets hitting rock bottom and local interest in the Pilgrims at an all time low, Boston United have acted quickly to sign popular local lad Anthony Elding on a free transfer from Boston United, impsTALK can exclusively reveal.

Elding was unveiled at a press conference at 1930 BST this evening after with boss Steve Evans excitedly touting the 24 year old as a ‘wonderful addition’ to the squad.

Welcome back

Elding initially penned a deal with Boston United last month, creating a mild thawing of the frosty relationship between Evans and fans, but left the club by mutual consent yesterday afternoon, before rejoining the club today amid a blaze of positive publicity.

The ex-Stevenage star posed for pictures on the Staffsmart Stadium pitch before being paraded before a cheering fan following the press conference, accompanied by a grinning Steve Evans.

Evans had been left disappointed with the underwhelming reaction of the few remaining Pilgrims supporters to his recent signings, with accusations the club was signing too many elderly hoofball journeymen.

Encouraged by a more positive response to the capture of Port Vale trialist Richie Ryan, Evans decided to transfer list Elding and purchase him again for a second time, and with many Bostonians now no longer paying close attention to events at the Staffsmart Arena his ploy appears to have worked with the fan turning out in force on a balmy summer evening.

“We’re delighted Ant has pledged his immediate future to us here at the Staffsmart Arena,” Evans said. “When I heard from Jim that I’d listed him yesterday I called my wife on her mobile to alert her of his availability. Subsequently both myself and Jim acted quickly to get him on board. I’d also thank to thank myself personally for the absolutely professional way I’ve handled this transfer. I’m a great admirer and friend of Steve Evans and wish myself the best of luck for the forthcoming Coca-Cola League Two campaign at the Staffsmart Arena.”

The Pilgrims toyed with merely registering Elding for a second time, but would have been forced to allocate him two squad numbers and have extra numbers printed on the back of Elding's match shirt.

“Such is the anticipated demand for the new kit, with an excellent pre-order already made by our superb fan, Chris Cook has run short of numbers,” press officer Craig Singleton explained.

The Pilgrims have also announced an exclusive image rights deal with Daryl Clare, allowing the use of his image on the official club website.

“It makes great marketing sense,” fashionable club chairman Jim Rodwell said at the press conference. “We basically get to bang on about his immense achievements without having to endure the ignominy of having him stink up the place while on the pitch.”
