Boston's Up!
Boston's
Up!
Got a weirdly nice ring to it, eh? Sure, it turned out the only
reason that Boston went 'up' was because of the criminal acts of the worst
manager in the history of football and his cretinous lackeys, but that
sure didn't stop us celebrating like goons at Hayes back in whenever it
was.
The euphoria around the town at the time of Boston's elevation to the
Big Time™ is hard to recall these days, since United's players are
granted a civic reception whenever they manage to score a goal (NOTE -
no civic receptions in 2007, 2008 or 2009). Also seemingly like a dim
and distant memory is the guilty pleasure of that first season in the
League. Despite Krankie's suspension and the horror of being mauled in
public by Mark fucking Lawrenson - of all people! - Boston's story was
of sufficient interest to prompt The Guardian to run a series of weekly
articles detailing life at the Football League's newest club.
And so, here, thanks to the efforts of Johnny Chapman, you can read all
of the articles in full, scanned in glorious high-definition. They're
all image files, and hence quite large, but you'll figure it out.
Oddly enough, we're still waiting for the sequel: Boston's Been Demoted
- Again! E-mail Sean Ingle if you'd like to see it (but don't mention
this page).
Enjoy.
