Chants

Boston fans don't sing. And when they do, you wish they hadn't bothered. It merely attracts unwanted attention from the far more vocal away fans. But it wasn't always this way. Oh no. Here's impsTALK's guide to the chants that dribble off the York St terraces, or used to anyway.....

'Hoof the Ball Pilgrims'

‘Hoof the Ball Pilgrims’ has been heard on the terraces of York Street since the early part of the 21st century and is generally acknowledged to be the oldest song of its kind in South Lincolnshire. Celebrating the Pilgrims’ inimitable brand of football, the tuneless ditty is certainly one-of-a-kind.

Hoof the Ball Pilgrims

In the days to call, which we have left behind,
Our boyhood's ugly long-ball game,
And our youthful vigour has declined
With its mirth and its lonesome end;
You will think of the time, the happy time,
Its memories fond recall
When in the bloom of our aged decline
We've kept upon the ball.

Kick off, hoof it long, have a little scrimmage,
Kick it high, a splendid push, bravo nil-nil draw or die;
Hoof the ball Pilgrims, never mind the midfield,
Kick off, throw it in, have a little scrimmage,
Hit it long, a splendid goal-kick, bravo nil-nil draw or die;

Hoof the ball Pilgrims, never mind the midfield,
Steady on, Now's your chance,
Hurrah! We've signed a loan player
Pilgrims! Pilgrims! Pilgrims!
